A multi-tasking turning centre finishes a part that would otherwise move between a lathe and a mill. Driven tools and a Y axis put milled flats, cross holes and off-centre features into the same cycle as the turning.
Fewer setups means fewer chances for a datum to shift, less handling and less work in progress waiting between machines.
